Projects for Professionals

hire professionals

The purpose of the Escalimmo Home Services blog is to provide information on how to complete repairs and updates to your home on your own. There are many DIY projects in your home you can complete without the help of a professional. However, there are some you should leave for professionals for either safety reasons or the complexity of the project.

Here are some projects we recommend hiring professionals in Valencia for:

Electrical Projects

Electricity is extremely dangerous and complicated. You can seriously injure yourself if you perform an electrical repair incorrect. This could even be fatal. You should not attempt to complete an electrical project unless you are confident in your understanding of wiring and grounding.

There are several electricians in Santa Clarita you can hire. You should visit each company’s website and research their services as well as online customer reviews. This will give you a good indication if they’re the right service for you.

Roof Repair

Any repair needed on your roof is dangerous due to the height element. You have to understand proper ladder safety procedures and understand how to complete the repair while maintaining balance on top of the roof. This is a very dangerous home repair and you should hire a roofer in Valencia.

The other reason you should hire a roofer is to ensure your home insurance provider covers any damage to your roof in the future. If you complete the repair or install a new roof it will not be insured. This could cost you a lot of money in the future. We recommend you hire a Valencia roofing company immediately. You can avoid danger and risk in the future.

Exterminator Services

We recommend you hire an exterminator if your house has an infestation problem. There are several poisons and chemicals required to remove the infestation that require professional training and experience for proper use. The insects themselves are dangerous too, especially when it comes to various spiders or bees. Some bee attacks can be fatal. You want the proper protection and equipment necessary to handle the infestation safely.

Tree Removal

You should hire a tree removal service instead of cutting down large trees on your own, especially if the trees are near powerlines. Trees can fall in unexpected directions. You also need to use dangerous equipment to complete the removal. We recommend hiring an insured tree removal company in Valencia for this project.

Carpet Cleaning

Deep cleaning your carpet doesn’t carry the same safety risks as some of the previous projects and repairs we mentioned, but you can damage your carpet in the process. Because carpet is a very expensive investment, we recommend only hiring carpet cleaning Valencia companies to deep clean the carpet in your home.

DIY carpet cleaning can saturate the carpet or expose it too harmful toxins and chemicals. If carpet becomes too wet, it leads to mold growth and browning. You should trust the professionals instead and protect your carpet investment in your home.

You can complete most home repair projects on your own using tips from our blog, but for the five projects we listed above, it is best to hire a professional Valencia service.

Painting a Patio Deck

paint patio deck

Most of the people find the patio deck painting a complicated task but the fact is that it becomes more tedious when a person makes use of wrong tools or improper procedures.

If you have used stains in your deck then you may have to refinish it within 3 to 5 years but in case of paint, the touch up is required more often. Thus, it becomes important to find the fastest methods to complete the job. To do this task efficiently, you can take help from friends and family members.

The best idea to work upon patio deck painting project is when humidity is somewhere below 80 percent and the temperature is found in the range of 40 to 90 degrees.

This time is considered best because in such conditions your patio will not be affected by direct sun light and paint will find enough time to dry properly.

As you will be working with a paint sprayer so it is good to work in day hours when little wind is flowing in the area.

Prepare Your Deck

Same as many other paint jobs, an essential part of this project is to prepare the area for painting. You need to start by simply by scrapping the old dirty paint because if you add new paint over it then it will turn bad too quickly. Once you have taken out all the peeling then it is time to repair the loose nails and other wooden pieces.

Clean Your Deck

Paint can stick well to a clean surface but on the other side, the covered deck use to contain dirt, dust, debris, and pollen. The best idea is to spray your deck with a cleaner so that the surface can become ready for paint. You can easily find such cleaning products at home improvement stores.

These cleaners often take almost 20 minutes to clean the area and then you have to scrub the surface with a stiff brush. After scrubbing, rinse the area with clean water and allow it to dry naturally.

Add Protection

It is important to apply some plastic sheeting to one side of the house and then secure it well with painters tape. All the shrubs and plants in the surrounding area must be protected from paint.

Although these additional tasks may lengthen your deck improvement project, they are quite essential to ensure harm to other things around.

Spray the Paint

If you want the quick results for deck painting then the best idea is to use the sprayer. You need not buy one rather they are easily available on rent too. You can load these paint spray machines with any of your favorite colors and it will help you to cover the entire area within very less time.

Wait for every coat to dry properly and while using this sprayer, always prefer to wear a proper protective mask, eye wear, and old clothes. Soon your deck will gain a new attractive look.

How to Install Laminate Countertops

laminate countertop

Laminate countertops are a budget-friendly alternative to granite and stone countertops. Laminate was once considered cheap but today it is a very stylish option for modern homes. The laminate countertops available for purchase come in several colorful patterns and designs.

Any amateur home repairman can install laminate countertops too. You can save even more money if you decide to install the countertops yourself. Here is a simple guide on how to install laminate countertops in your kitchen:

Before you purchase the laminate countertops, you need to measure your cabinet depth and measure the back wall along your cabinets for length and accuracy. Be sure to account for overhangs too. You should add around 1 inch or slightly more for countertop overhangs.

You should also measure backsplash height. Your new counter should not interfere with window trim or outlets. You should also ensure your walls and cabinets are straight with a level. You want your cabinets flat before installing the new countertop.

Now go to your local hardware store or custom countertop retailer and purchase the laminate countertop you want. Provide the store with the dimensions from your measuring to ensure the countertop is cut in the correct size.

You can now remove the old countertop from the cabinets. This can be done fairly easily with handheld tools. You simply need to detach it from the walls and cabinets.

You should also turn off the electricity near where you are working and shut off the plumbing too before removing the sink basin.

You can now place the new laminate countertop on top of the cabinets. If the cabinets do not open past the front of the countertop you will need to install build-up strips to lift the bottom of the countertop. Attach them every 2 ft. with nails on the underside of the countertop.

Now set the countertop in place with the miter corner as tight as possible. Once in place, tighten the miter bolt for a firm fit.

If there is a gap between the back of the countertop and the wall you will need to remove the laminate countertop and saw off the excess until the fit is tight and secure along the wall.

Sand the edges of the countertop and add return backsplashes along the top of the countertop for a more finished look.

Now it is time to install the sink in the new laminate countertop. Center the sink and trace the outline. Your cutout should be a half inch inside the line. Now you can cutout the piece for the space the sink will be. You can screw in extra support beams in the cutout to help hold the weight of the sink basin.

Once the sink is in place it is time to firmly fasten the countertop with all of the support brackets in the cabinets. Use #8 screws for the best fastening. Use short screws so you don’t screw through the top of the countertop.

You can now reattach the cabinet doors and drawers.

In just a few easy steps you will have a new, beautiful laminate countertop for you and your family to enjoy!

Avoid Foundation Damage with Proper Gutter Installation

Most of us who have had foundations problems in our homes always think it’s all about termite infestation and poor construction. At times, you may also think it’s as a result of a natural disaster or a change in the conditions of the soil. A very small number of homeowners across the country understand that most foundation problems are usually as a result of poor drainage arising from the home’s gutter system. Understand that there’s a relationship between the foundation of your house and the gutter system.

According to a recent survey across the country, the cost of repairing foundation damage is about $4,000 and more. This looks like a lot of money, right? It’s better to spend your time and a small amount of money on maintenance that wait till it’s too late.

The gutter system is a very important component of your roof as it helps to capture all the water hitting the roof during rain or when snow melts and directs it safely to the ground. They channel the water to the downspouts which move the water away from your home’s foundation. It’s, therefore, important to have a quality and working gutter system and downspout setup to avoid causing damage to your home’s foundation. Here are some of the ways through which a quality and properly installed gutter system can help in preserving your home’s foundation.

Preventing Erosion

Defective or improperly installed gutters are more likely to direct water to the wrong areas. This might lead to soil erosion in those areas thereby resulting in uneven foundation settlement. Remember the gutter system and downspout setup should direct the water away from your property’s foundation. When water is directed to where it’s not supposed to go, it may damage the foundation thus compromising on the building’s structural integrity.

Preventing Mold Growth

Once the water starts settling in the wrong place around your home, the soil ends up getting saturated. The water will them start seeping into your home’s foundation thereby leading to mold growth. After some time, the mold will spread all over your home and it may be very expensive to remove.

Preventing Soil Saturation

We’ve already talked about the soil around your home getting saturated. Note that this happens when the water is not taken far enough away as it should be. The problem here could be due to improper gutter installation. Either the gutters are loose or were not securely fasted during installation. Once the soil gets saturated with water, the basement walls of your home will be subjected to pressure and may start cracking.

To make sure your roofing system and gutters are in good condition and working properly, contact a licensed remodeling contractor to inspect and fix any potential problems.
